Ministry of Public Health celebrates International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to increase public awareness, reducing victims of violence
IDEVW is celebrated throughout the world, under the theme of Respect for women, Respect for World. Celebrating the Day, MoPH is committed to deliver the effective and standard health services to those women whom effected by gender violence and conflict of families in all over health centers of the country.

Violence against women in Afghanistan is a bad phenomenon that, unfortunately, during past two decades of civil war, cultivation of opium, drug trafficking and addiction, this bad phenomenon has increased. The violence against women is not only a clear violation of Afghan constitutions, international conventions such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, but is also a big challenge towards obtaining Millennium Development Goals. We should do not forget that violence against women will increase poverty and instability; and unfortunately health sector is also victim of this terrible phenomenon and most health sector resources are spent for the treatment violence victims. said the Minister of Public health, Dr.SMA Fatimie during celebration of the day. As we all know every nation has responsibilities for implementing the international conventions, Afghanistan government also observes these conventions. The Afghan government established an inter-ministerial commission to fight violence against women in November of 2004 and MoPH is an active member of this commission and has serious role in this respect He added.

MoPH adopted significant measure in the area of treatment the victims of violence, such as including treatment of the victims into BPHS (CHC level), providing training of health care providers on how to deliver health services to victims of violence, printing of brochure about gender descrimination and assuring the committment of HSSP,WHO &UNFPA organizations for increasing health service delivery.
