NANGARHAR, Afghanistan — Afghanistan’s Minister of Public Health, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, has inaugurated a series of new medical facilities in eastern Nangarhar province, including a 50-bed oncology treatment hospital, a new 10-bed intensive care unit, and a new outpatient department building at Bibi Fatima al-Zahra Provincial Hospital.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor of Nangarhar, Mawlawi Azizullah Mustafa; Provincial Health Director, Mawlawi Aminullah Sharif, and Ulema Council Chairman, Sheikh Hazrat Jan Hanafi, among other senior figures. In his address, H.E. Jalali said the ministry would continue working to upgrade service quality and broaden medical coverage nationwide, adding that additional “major achievements and openings” were expected in the coming months. He also pledged salary increases for healthcare workers, the acquisition of essential medical equipment, and the implementation of advanced training programmes designed to improve the efficiency and standardisation of care.

The ICU capacity at Nangarhar Regional Hospital has been expanded from 10 to 20 beds, a move expected to boost critical-care capability and enhance emergency response services in one of the country’s most densely populated regions.

Healthcare staff and local authorities welcomed the new facilities, praising what they described as the Ministry of Public Health’s sustained and sincere efforts to address longstanding gaps in service provision. They had conveyed further needs and requests to the minister, who promised full cooperation and continued support as the government seeks to stabilise and modernise the health sector.
