The Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, met with the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), John Aylieff, and his accompanying delegation at his office.

Talks focused on expanding and strengthening public nutrition services, reviewing WFP’s ongoing assistance and programmes, improving the effectiveness of nutrition interventions, and outlining future plans and areas of cooperation.

The health minister welcomed the WFP delegation, stressing that the expansion of public nutrition services is a critical national health priority. He said assistance in this sector must be better coordinated, sustainable, and aligned with the real needs of the population.

He added that the Ministry of Public Health remains committed to strengthening coordination and joint efforts with international humanitarian partners to ensure the delivery of high-quality and effective health services nationwide.

Meanwhile, the WFP executive director thanked the ministry’s leadership and briefed officials on the organisation’s current operations. He said WFP plans to support earthquake-affected communities in Kunar province as well as returning migrants, and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to continuing and expanding its nutrition assistance.
