MoU on Family Planning Service Delivery signed with a number of private hospitals

 
Kabul, Monday, 10 March 2017: Dr. Feda Mohammad Paikan, Deputy Minister for Health Care Services Provision of the Ministry of Public Health signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the representatives of 15 Kabul and Herat based private hospitals, during the meeting which has been held to introduce a package of reproductive health services, newborn and adolescent.
 
The memorandum of understanding aims to help people especially women to have better access to quality family planning services, reducing maternal and child mortality, and to get involved the private sector in family planning in accordance with the Ministry of Public Health Policy and Strategy singed with 7 Kabul and 8 Herat based private hospitals.
 
Dr. Feda Mohammad Paikan, Deputy Minister for Health Care Services Provision said, “Maternal and newborn mortality is a serious challenge in the country” and added that “Afghanistan is among the countries that have the highest maternal and newborn mortality. I hope this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) contributes to reducing maternal and newborn mortality rate.” Dr. Paikan encouraged the officials of all 15 private hospitals to make all appropriate efforts for implementation of the memorandum of understanding to reduce the mortality rate.
 
Dr. Paikan, Deputy Minister for Health Care Services Provision of the Ministry of Public Health stressed on his support for the private health sector to improve health services, especially family planning, and asked them to deliver quality and standard health services in accordance with the standards of the Ministry of Public Health.
 
So far, the Ministry of Public Health has managed to sign around 27 MoUs with the private hospitals to reduce maternal and newborn mortality rate, and it is supposed to increase the number of MoUs to 40 hospitals till end of this year.
