Afghan Health Minister and UNFPA Leaders Hold Strategic Talks to Strengthen National Healthcare System

Kabul – H.E. Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, hosted Koffi Kwabena Asante, the UNFPA Representative to Afghanistan, and Mr. Andrew Saberton, Deputy Executive Director and Assistant Secretary-General of the organization, for a key meeting focused on strengthening Afghanistan’s healthcare system.
The discussions centered on revitalizing Afghanistan’s health sector, including securing sustained financial support, optimizing aid management, expanding healthcare access, and transitioning mobile health teams into permanent centers. They also explored aligning service delivery with the Ministry’s health policy to address the country’s most pressing needs.
Minister Jalali emphasized the importance of transparency and aligning efforts with national priorities to improve the efficacy and sustainability of healthcare services. He called for a strategic overhaul of resource allocation to optimize international assistance and achieve long-term health outcomes.
Mr. Saberton commended the Afghan government’s commitment to transparency and highlighted the need for continued international support. He reaffirmed UNFPA’s commitment to securing additional resources to improve health outcomes in Afghanistan.
