Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health Holds Review and Evaluation Meeting of the National Tuberculosis Control Programme
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health convened a review and evaluation meeting of the National Tuberculosis (TB) Control Programme, assessing the programme’s past activities and achievements, addressing gaps and operational challenges, revising the national strategic plan for the next five years, and securing a dedicated budget for the coming three years. The session brought together Deputy Minister for Health Services, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, Director General of Preventive Medicine, Dr. Haider Khan Haider, relevant directorate officials, technical evaluators of the TB programme, and representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Deputy Minister Haqqani thanked the technical evaluators of the National Tuberculosis (TB) Programme and emphasized that this assessment provides a valuable opportunity to identify existing gaps and challenges and to find appropriate solutions. He highlighted that such evaluations are crucial for the control and improvement of TB and underscored the Ministry’s respect for their professional judgment and scientific expertise.
Dr. Haider Khan Haider, expressed his gratitude to both international and national technical partners and emphasized the need to address existing challenges through joint efforts to fully control the spread of tuberculosis.
The technical evaluation team and representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) also shared their insights and information in this regard and made several recommendations aimed at improving services in the sector.
