IEA Health Minister and UK Envoy Discuss Strategic Health Sector Cooperation and Aid Optimization
The Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, met with the British Chargé d’Affaires, Robert Dickson, to evaluate the current health service landscape, urgent needs, strategic oversight of international aid, new health center projects, and enhancements in cancer and addiction treatment.
Also present was Mr. Koiku Akum, Health Advisor at the UK’s FCDO, who joined in a thorough review of existing health services, progress, challenges, aid requirements, and efficient aid management, while discussing expansion of health facilities in remote areas and strengthening support for cancer and addiction care.
The Minister underscored the critical need to develop health centers in underserved regions, stating, “We are committed to systematically steering the healthcare system towards self-reliance,” highlighting ongoing construction of district hospitals funded through the IEA’s internal budget.
He further emphasized stringent oversight of international aid, prioritizing alignment with the Ministry’s strategic goals, and stressed the essential role of collaboration with global health organizations, urging continued partnership from the British Chargé d’Affaires.
In response, the British Chargé d’Affaires and delegation expressed satisfaction with Afghanistan’s efforts to enhance self-sufficiency and transparency in health services, pledging full support for future cooperation.
