A brain tumour surgery has been performed successfully for the first time at Abu Ali Sina Regional Hospital in Balkh province

Hospital officials said the neurosurgery involved the removal of an intra-axial brain tumour from a 12-year-old girl who had been suffering from severe headaches, nausea and vision loss.

The five-hour operation was carried out by the hospital’s neurosurgery team using modern surgical equipment. The patient was discharged in full recovery after one week of hospitalisation and treatment.

The successful procedure is being described as a major step forward in expanding neurosurgical services in the country’s northern region.

The neurosurgery department at Abu Ali Sina Regional Hospital says it remains committed to strengthening its scientific and technical capacity to provide safe, specialised and standard healthcare services to the public
