A session was convened to reinstate the Health Management Information System (HMIS) at the Ministry of Public Health, with the Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration, Mullah Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat; Director General of Planning and Policy, Dr. Mirwais Ahmadzai; senior officials from central hospitals; and representatives from health sector implementing agencies in attendance.

Initially established in 2014, the Ministry of Public Health’s HMIS functioned until 2019, at which point operations were halted due to a range of technical challenges. However, with the renewed support of the World Health Organization, the system has now been reactivated in an online format.

Mullah Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat underscored that reactivating the HMIS is pivotal not only for the systematic collection of health data and expenditure records but also for streamlining administrative processes, enabling the formulation of effective policies and strategies, and fostering both transparency and efficiency in program implementation. He regarded this development as a landmark achievement for the nation’s healthcare sector.

Moreover, attendees were provided with an in-depth briefing, which included a detailed presentation on the system’s reactivation and its potential applications across the sector.
