Mawlawi Hafiz Inamullah Ammar, the Director of the National Program for the Treatment of Addicts at the Ministry of Public Health, recently convened with the representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to deliberate upon a survey conducted by the organization concerning drug addiction in Afghanistan.

During this high-level meeting, discourse centered around the enhancement of facilities for drug rehabilitation, alongside a comprehensive examination of the findings related to drug addiction prevalence in the country.

The UNODC representative furnished detailed insights into a survey carried out in 2022, which scrutinized the extent of substance abuse across Afghanistan. In response, Mawlawi Hafiz Inamullah Ammar underscored the imperative for conducting an updated and all-encompassing survey. He emphasized that such an initiative would enable the precise identification of the number of individuals grappling with various forms of substance dependency, thereby facilitating a more targeted and effective approach to combating the issue at a national scale.
