A public awareness session on drug use prevention was conducted by the Drug Prevention Team of the 450-Bed Jangalak Addiction Treatment Hospital, with the participation of officials, faculty members, and students from Kabul University of Medicine.

The primary objective of the session was to raise health awareness among youth—particularly students in health sciences—regarding the risk factors, adverse effects, and public health implications of substance use. The session also aimed to identify evidence-based strategies for the prevention and control of substance abuse within the community.

During the session, Dr. Abdul Qadir Danishmal, Director of the hospital, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the pathophysiological effects of drugs on the human body. He highlighted the detrimental impact of substances on the central nervous system (CNS), cardiovascular system, and mental health, including dependence, addiction, and psychological disorders. He emphasized that substance use disorder is not merely an individual condition but a significant public health concern and social determinant of health, affecting families and communities at large.

It is noteworthy that such awareness programs play a critical role in behavioral change, reducing the prevalence of substance use, and promoting a health-conscious and resilient society.
