TORKHAM — In a striking move to strengthen healthcare delivery for returnee refugees, the Deputy Minister for Health Services Delivery at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, led a high-level delegation to Torkham.

The visit, joined by advisors from relevant Deputy Offices of the Ministry of Public, a bulk of central directors, and the Nangarhar Provincial Health Director, aimed to assess the situation on the ground and coordinate improved services for the vulnerable population arriving at the border. Discussions were held with the head and members of the health service committee established for returnees, focusing on existing challenges, minimum requirements, and the delivery of essential but often cumbersome services.

Given the capricious nature of cross-border movements and the unpredictable conditions in the area, officials emphasized the need for flexible, rapid, and well-coordinated health responses. The delegation also inspected exotic temporary health centers in the refugee camp, as well as mobile health teams and preventive services designed to inhibit the spread of communicable diseases.

Recognizing the refugees' vulnerable condition, the Deputy Minister issued clear directives to responsible officials, urging strong coordination and the prioritization of efficient healthcare services. He advised against focusing on vanity projects and instead encouraged alignment with humanitarian trends to ensure timely and effective health support for returnees.
