A nationwide diabetes-prevention awareness program was convened by the Ministry of Public Health in coordination with National Olympic and Directorate General of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan

The session drew participation from Deputy Minister Mawlawi Abdulwali Haqqani, senior ministry officials, medical experts, Hafiz Ahmad Jan Zadran professional Deputy for National Olympic and the Directorate General of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan ,athletes from multiple disciplines, and media representatives.

Haqqani underscored that sustained physical activity is indispensable for preserving health and averting diabetes and other chronic conditions, noting that Afghan youth and athletes consistently exemplify the benefits of disciplined exercise and healthy living.

He added that, in alignment with IEA directives, the Ministry is broadening national awareness campaigns through collaboration with sports, educational, media, and religious institutions to ensure healthy-living messages reach all households.

Dr. Haidar Khan Haidar, Director of Preventive Medicine, offered essential guidance on diabetes prevention, risk factors, and diagnosis, describing the initiative as a meaningful step toward cultivating a more informed, resilient, and health-conscious society.

Hafiz Ahmad Jan Zadran emphasized the central role of sport in promoting a healthy lifestyle and reaffirmed the National Olympic and Directorate General of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan's full commitment to supporting such public-health programs.

Ministry specialists delivered focused presentations on the symptoms, prevention, treatment, and lifestyle adjustments associated with diabetes, providing participants with clear and practical recommendations.

 

The event concluded with sports demonstrations aimed at encouraging youth engagement in physical activity and illustrating its effectiveness in preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes.
