Meeting Held to Review Findings of Tuberculosis (TB) Epidemiological Assessment

A meeting was held to review the findings of the tuberculosis (TB) epidemiological assessment, focusing on the disease’s prevalence, regional distribution, risk factors, and transmission trends within the community.

The session was chaired by Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, Deputy Minister for Health Services of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), with participation from ministry directors and representatives of UNDP, the Aga Khan Foundation, and other partner organizations.

The assessment was conducted under the leadership of the Ministry of Public Health, specifically through the Communicable Disease Control Directorate’s TB Control Program, with technical and financial support from UNDP’s Global Fund Project. Its primary goal was to better understand the TB situation nationwide and to guide evidence-based planning for effective control and prevention measures.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani emphasized that the fight against tuberculosis remains a vital and continuous priority for Afghanistan. He highlighted the firm commitment of the Islamic Emirate’s leadership and the Ministry of Public Health to implementing all necessary measures for TB control across the country.

His Excellency Haqqani further noted that the results of this assessment will play a key role in strengthening ongoing TB interventions, improving data accuracy for policy and strategy formulation, and enhancing transparency, accountability, and access to quality healthcare services. He expressed appreciation to all organizations and professionals involved in the implementation of this study.

Participants shared their insights and recommendations to help improve future TB assessment processes and ensure stronger implementation of upcoming action plans.
