The Directorate General of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry of Public Health has officially launched a three-day workshop aimed at building the capacity of provincial surveillance officers and strengthening coordination between the central level and the provinces.

At the opening ceremony, the Deputy Minister for Health Services, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, along with central and provincial directors and a number of other officials, were in attendance.

Addressing the gathering, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani described the surveillance system as a key pillar of public health and stressed that without a robust and effective system in place, the timely detection and effective control of diseases would not be possible.

The Deputy Minister noted that “Surveillance is not only about data collection, but also about data analysis and timely information sharing. Through these measures, the spread of diseases can be prevented and public health can be safeguarded.”

He further highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination among the central level, provinces, and regional hubs, describing it as a critical factor for success. He also praised the efforts of the participants and added that last year’s external assessment yielded positive results, which reflects the joint efforts of all stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Enayatullah Enayat, underscored the importance of such workshops, stating that these programs play a vital role in experience sharing, addressing challenges, and strengthening systems. He also reaffirmed his commitment to organizing similar capacity-building initiatives in the future to further enhance staff capabilities, enabling the surveillance system to play an effective role in the timely detection, prevention, and control of diseases across the country.
