A five-day Joint External Evaluation (JEE) workshop under the International Health Regulations (IHR-2005), chaired by Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, Deputy Minister for Health Services, was officially launched by the General Directorate of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry of Public Health.

The workshop brought together the Deputy Minister, senior officials from the central directorates of the ministry, representatives from various government institutions, and delegates from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani described the workshop as a valuable opportunity for the Ministry of Public Health to critically assess achievements, identify gaps and challenges, and develop a clear and actionable roadmap for the future.

He added that this process would significantly strengthen disease-prevention mechanisms, enhance rapid response capacity, and improve national health security in line with international standards. He expressed hope that the outcome of the evaluation would inform long-term development plans and reinforce the foundation of the ministry’s strategic frameworks.

Addressing participants, Dr. Jamshid Tanoli, the WHO representative, stated that completing this evaluation marks a crucial step toward the joint identification of national capacities, needs, and health priorities. He emphasized that the process is not merely an assessment, but a collaborative and developmental effort aimed at implementing the IHR-2005 and strengthening national health systems. He reaffirmed WHO’s commitment to continued technical assistance for Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Dr. Enayatullah Enayat, Director-General of Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ministry of Public Health, delivered a presentation outlining key findings and achievements from recent years related to previous Joint External Evaluations.
