MoPH Minister Holds Virtual Meeting with Global Donors on Future of Afghanistan’s Health Sector

The Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, held a virtual meeting with representatives of international donor organizations including UNFPA, UNDP, the World Bank, the Global Fund, GAVI, ADB, and the European Union.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the effective implementation of the national health policy, setting future strategic directions, strengthening and expanding healthcare services, the potential decline in funding after 2026, the need for a gradual transition of financial responsibilities, and the challenges arising from natural disasters and logistical constraints.

The Minister expressed his appreciation for the continued support of partners and called on donors to intensify their efforts in mobilizing additional resources. He also spoke in detail about gradually assuming financial responsibilities and ensuring the sustainable provision of healthcare services.

On the other hand, the donors appreciated the leadership of the Ministry, reaffirmed their support for the continuity of health services, and emphasized ongoing coordination with international partners, while stressing their commitment to continued assistance. The meeting concluded with both sides renewing their commitment to strengthening cooperation and ensuring the provision of sustainable healthcare services for the people of Afghanistan.
