Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health has established a high-level committee to regulate the activities of foreign and domestic medical professionals working in the country’s private healthcare sector.

Chaired by Dr Faqir Mohammad Ziar, director general of the ministry’s Medical Council, the committee has been tasked with reviewing the academic qualifications, professional licences and residency documents of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers. The ministry said legal action would be taken against those found in breach of regulations.

As part of the committee’s initial inspection drive, visits were carried out at several private hospitals in Kabul, including Royal, Refah, Khairkhwa and Kesha. Officials issued formal recommendations to the management of each facility, urging compliance with licensing requirements and the provision of standardised services.
