Afghanistan’s Public Health Minister Attends Closing Session of WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in India
Afghanistan’s public health minister, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, attended the closing session of the WHO’s second Global Summit on Traditional Medicine during an official visit to India.
The summit, held with India’s Ministry of AYUSH, brought together Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, health ministers from 23 countries and delegates from nearly 100 nations.
WHO Director-General Tedros said traditional medicine is a core part of health systems and, if evidence-based and well regulated, can expand access, cut costs and improve wellbeing.
Prime Minister Modi said traditional medicine and ancient health knowledge are a shared global heritage with the potential to address modern health challenges.
Afghan health officials of the MoPH said the delegation joined the summit to support efforts to standardise traditional medicine in Afghanistan and engage with international partners.
