The Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, His Excellency Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, recently convened a pivotal meeting with Mr. Rafat Jamal, the distinguished head of the UNHCR organization in Afghanistan, at his official office.

During this high-level engagement, an array of critical topics was addressed, including the delivery of essential healthcare services to repatriated refugees, the initiation of specialized training programs for healthcare professionals within the returnee population, and the establishment of modern health facilities in refugee-concentrated areas. Additionally, the discussion delved into the upgrading of general hospitals and healthcare centers previously established by UNHCR, the implementation of robust measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases among returnees, the necessity for enhanced attention in these domains, and the construction of emergency healthcare centers along key transportation routes.

In his address, His Excellency Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali accentuated the indispensable role of international collaboration in bolstering Afghanistan’s healthcare infrastructure. He urged UNHCR to intensify their support, advocating for the provision of standardized and accessible healthcare services for returnees. Such measures, he emphasized, are vital to systematically addressing the healthcare needs of those reintegrating into Afghan society and alleviating the challenges they face.

In response, Mr. Rafat Jamal reaffirmed UNHCR’s unwavering commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s health sector. He elaborated on their initiatives to deliver comprehensive healthcare solutions for returnees, including the development of emergency medical centers along strategic highways and the implementation of capacity-building programs for healthcare professionals among refugee communities. He further pledged ongoing cooperation, expressing confidence that UNHCR’s continued support would significantly enhance health outcomes in these critical areas.
