The Ministry of Public Health Holds Awareness Session on Breastfeeding and Infant Nutrition
The session was attended by the Deputy Minister for Health Services of the MoPH, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, several central directors, and representatives of international partner organizations and the media. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Minister emphasized that breastfeeding lays the foundation for a healthy society. He further noted that breast milk acts as a vital and powerful natural vaccine, playing a crucial role in preventing infectious diseases, diarrhea, and malnutrition, while strengthening the immune system.
The Deputy Minister further stated that the MoPH has intensified efforts to expand and strengthen programs aimed at preventing infectious diseases and improving public nutrition, with the goal of protecting the health of the people and preventing the spread of diseases.
Dr. Haidar Khan Haidar, Director General of Disease Prevention and Control also provided an overview of the directorate’s activities, stressed the importance of strengthening preventive measures, and emphasized that breastfeeding plays a vital role in protecting the health of mothers and children.
Meanwhile, Dr. Hikmatullah Masoomi, Director of Public Nutrition, stated that breast milk is not merely a source of nutrition; it also plays a vital role in protecting the health of mothers and children and contributes significantly to the economic development and overall well-being of society.
At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Sharafat Zaman, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, read out the ministry’s statement on public nutrition.
