A Public Awareness Event on Thalassemia Held by the Ministry of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister for Health Services, central directors of the ministry, and representatives of the media.

The Deputy Minister for Health Services stated that specialized centers have been established across the country to provide better treatment for thalassemia patients, where hundreds of patients are currently receiving treatment. He added that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan considers the strengthening of the health sector one of its key priorities and is striving to further expand and improve healthcare services for thalassemia patients.

He also emphasized that through joint cooperation, continuous efforts, and public awareness, thalassemia can be prevented and appropriate treatment opportunities can be provided for patients.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Public Health, Sheikh Mohammad Tahir Halim, stated that in addition to conducting public awareness programs, international organizations and business communities should also cooperate and provide support in the prevention of thalassemia and assistance to patients affected by the disease.

He stressed that supporting thalassemia patients is a shared humanitarian and social responsibility, and that all relevant institutions should make serious and sustained efforts to provide better treatment facilities and long-term support for these patients.

 

Moreover, the Head of the National Blood Bank, Dr. Niaz Gul Niazmand, stated that thalassemia is a serious hereditary disease whose patients require regular blood transfusions, noting that a large number of patients have currently been registered in Kabul and other provinces.

He further added that the Ministry of Public Health and blood banks have arranged regular services, blood supplies, and treatment facilities for patients.

He also noted that programs for establishing well-equipped departments and laboratories are underway to further improve healthcare services for patients.
