A Regular Meeting of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) Leadership and Technical Committee Held
The meeting was chaired by Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, Deputy Minister for Health Services of the MoPH, and held at the Ministry’s conference hall, with the participation of advisers to the Ministry’s leadership and representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), INTERSOS, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and several other organizations.
The Deputy Minister for Health Services identified polio eradication as one of the MoPH’s key priorities, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to eliminating polio in the country through enhanced coordination and closer collaboration with health partners. He added that concerted efforts are ongoing to achieve this goal.
Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani also briefed the participants on the finalization of the MoPH’s strategy, emphasizing that the activities undertaken and information gathered by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and its partners over the past three months would provide a strong basis for better planning and further enhancing the effectiveness of the programme.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammad Azim Zamaryal Kakkar, Technical Adviser to the Minister of Public Health, and Dr. Rawzatullah Zia, a representative of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), delivered separate presentations covering vaccination activities, the implementation of polio vaccination campaigns, progress made, key recommendations, and measures to further improve the quality and effectiveness of polio vaccination efforts.
