As part of its ongoing inspections of markets in Kabul city, the Food Safety Department of the Food and Drugs Inspection Directorate of the Ministry of Public Health safely disposed of more than 7.8 tonnes of substandard, expired, poor-quality, and harmful food products. The products had been collected during inspections of various food businesses in different parts of Kabul and were safely destroyed in the presence of the designated committee and representatives of relevant authorities.

The disposed food products included various types of cakes and cookies, cheese, soft drinks, biscuits, spices, tea, milk, jam, juices, chips, and mayonnaise. These products had been removed from the market due to expiration, poor quality, or failure to meet health standards.

The Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority(AFDA) emphasizes that monitoring and inspections of food outlets will continue regularly. Legal action will be taken, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, against the sale and distribution of substandard, expired, or harmful food products.

The AFDA also urges citizens to check the expiry date, quality, packaging, and valid licensing of food products when making purchases. Citizens are also encouraged to report any suspicious products or violations to the AFDA by calling 701.
