MoPH Holds Public Awareness Ceremony on Eye Health and Blindness Prevention
The Ministry of Public Health of the IEA held a public awareness ceremony on eye health to raise awareness of the importance of eye care and the prevention of blindness.
The ceremony was attended by Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, Deputy Minister for Health Services; Sheikh Mohammad Tahir Halim, Chief of Staff; a number of central directors; health officials; representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO); and media representatives.
Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani said that eye health and the reduction and prevention of blindness are among the key priorities of the MoPH. He added that the Ministry considers the expansion of specialized eye care services a priority and has accelerated its efforts in this area.
Sheikh Mohammad Tahir Halim also delivered a comprehensive speech on the importance and value of eyesight from an Islamic perspective. He emphasized the need to exercise utmost care in protecting and using one’s eyes so that this great blessing from Allah remains protected and healthy.
Dr. Agha Mohammad Abid Totakhil, Head of Eye Health Care Coordination, also provided a comprehensive overview of the achievements of his department. He said that it is expected that trachoma will be completely eliminated from the country by 2030.
In addition, Dr. Atiqullah Akbari, WHO representative, addressed the ceremony and said that vision is not merely a means of seeing the world around us, but is also fundamental to human development and living a dignified life.
