The General Directorate of Policy and Planning of the Ministry of Public Health convened a high-level meeting with representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) to discuss the formulation of Afghanistan’s National Health Strategy.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Syed Rasool Mangal, Director General of Policy and Planning, and was held in his office. Key topics discussed included the outcomes of the previous Leadership Committee meeting, the strategy development process, and the core components to be included in the new strategy.

Dr. Mangal presented the key decisions and outcomes of the previous Leadership Committee session, emphasizing the importance and necessity of the National Health Strategy. He stated that the strategy will serve not only as a roadmap for the Ministry’s activities over the next five years but also as a foundation for delivering standardized, comprehensive, and equitable health services across the country.

Additionally, the outcomes of previous technical discussions with WHO were shared, during which the organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the process through technical cooperation. A detailed discussion was held on the draft guideline for strategy development. As a result, it was agreed to organize a three-day training workshop for sub-committee members. The aim of the workshop will be to explain the contents of the guideline in detail and to define strategic priorities based on standardized methods.

It is worth noting that, with strong leadership and consistent support from the Ministry of Public Health, the National Health Strategy for the next five years is on track to be successfully finalized. The strategy is expected to enhance access to quality, inclusive, and balanced healthcare services for the people of Afghanistan.
